Ann Frederick trained as a ballet dancer and always had a fascination with the human body. She worked with other ballet dancers and athletes, including olympic weight lifters and American football players to improve their flexibility and developed a programme called Stretch to Win. She soon opened the Stretch to Win Institute, based in Tempe Arizona in the US. She continued her research, but realised that flexibility was also important in the general population and not just athletes. Whilst working with an athlete on the table, she decided to strap one leg down so that she could achieve a deeper stretch and this is when Frederick Stretch Therapy was born.
Chris Frederick is Ann’s husband and is a Physical Therapist and after meeting, he joined her working at the Stretch to Win Institute, where they continued to develop their work.
Both Ann and Chris trained in the KMI method of Structural Integration with Tom Myers, so Fascial Stretch Therapy is based on the Anatomy Trains concept that Tom developed and on which the KMI method is based.
Together, both Anne and Chris have amassed scientific evidence for FST and in 2012, they closed the Stretch to Win Institute, where they were in private practice, to concentrate on teaching courses in Fascial Stretch Therapy. They teach in courses in their home town of Tempe Arizona, but classes are also available in Canada.
